With the clock striking 12 on a trade of Aaron Rodgers from the Packers to the Jets on Friday night, it makes sense for the two teams to re-establish contact.
The two teams "recently re-engaged" on potential Rodgers discussions, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
A deal is not imminent, but the two sides are at least talking — with hopes that a deal can (finally) be done this week," Rapoport said on Twitter.
Friday was always the goal. The transaction takes place at the latest when the Jets have consecutive second-round picks.
The first piece of the multi-pick package that the two teams agree on is a second-round pick in 2023.
If Rodgers does not play beyond 2023, the sticking point has become compensation for 2024 and protection for the Jets in 2025.
