Kevin Costner, the show's lead, reportedly failed to commit to the Season 5 production schedule, causing huge delays. Sources blame series creator Taylor Sheridan's ego.
“There’s respect, but there’s friction,” a production insider says. Paramount aired Season 5's first half in November 2022.
Since filming and production are still underway, the second half is in limbo. Sheridan, who controls Yellowstone spinoffs 1883 and 1923, is "overburdened," according to sources.
According to the Post, Costner only filmed the second part of Season 5 for a week without scripts. “Taylor is overburdened and Kevin made himself available at the beginning of the year,
but again, nothing was ready,” a source said. Kevin had committed to his other films. He gave producers his schedule.”
Sheridan is busy with Yellowstone dramas, but more are coming. Paramount President Chris McCarthy just confirmed another spinoff starring Matthew McConaughey
and more than 10 more Sheridan projects. Yellowstone's imminent demise is hard to believe. Paramount wants its other series to flourish despite its record-breaking statistics.
“Paramount doesn’t want ‘Yellowstone’ on the air for more than a year [competing with their shows]. A source indicated Paramount+ would like a new Sheridan show.
