On Monday, The Associated Press reported that Ime Udoka will coach the Houston Rockets.
After an inappropriate contact with a female Celtics employee, Udoka was suspended for this season.
The person talked to the AP anonymously because the team had not disclosed the change.
He replaces Stephen Silas, ousted after three seasons.
This season, the Rockets matched with the Spurs for the second-worst record, earning another lottery pick.
In his one season in Boston, 45-year-old Udoka led the Celtics to 51-31. The Celtics finished 26-6 and defeated Brooklyn, Milwaukee, and Miami in the playoffs before losing to Golden State in six games in the NBA Finals.
Udoka was undrafted and played professionally in Europe before a seven-year NBA career that featured short stints with the Lakers.
