In a teaser trailer for HBO Films' Reality, Sydney Sweeney puts on a brave face. Reality opens Monday,
May 29 at 10/9c on HBO and starts streaming the next day on what will then be called simply Max.Universal promises a Fast X sequel.
Tina Satter wrote and directed Reality, which is based on her 2019 play Is This a Room. Two-time Emmy nominee Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus) plays Reality Winner,
a former member of the U.S. Air Force and NSA translator who was met at her home in June 2017 by FBI agents who suspected her of mishandling classified information.
The 25-year-old whistleblower was eventually found guilty of giving a secret report about Russian interference in the election to the media.
He or she spent five years in jail during the Trump administration. The movie is based on real events, and the dialogue is said to be taken straight from the transcript of Winner's 90-minute interrogation by the government.
Josh Hamilton (from "The Walking Dead" and "13 Reasons Why") and Marchánt Davis are also part of the group.
Reality and Sweeney both got great reviews after the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival, where the HBO Films entry was shown.
