Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that teams have been calling the 49ers about trade for quarterback Trey Lance. San Francisco may start second-year quarterback Brock Purdy.
Lance was drafted third in the 2021 NFL draft and started as Jimmy Garoppolo's backup. In 2022, he played two games.
Garoppolo replaced Lance after he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2.
Week 13 foot injury for Garoppolo. Purdy started a six-game winning streak by beating the Dolphins.
The 49ers won two playoff games, but Purdy sustained an elbow injury in the NFC championship game and the Eagles prevailed.
Without a Lance trade, Rapoport says the 49ers want Purdy's rehab to go well. Lance started four of eight games during the last two seasons.
He has 797 throwing yards, five touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 54.9% completion rate in those games.
