The four-run fourth inning and the four-run sixth inning were Auburn's most productive innings. Both were the result of free baserunners.
Auburn scored three runs in the 4th on a Bobby Peirce single and five walks. LSU's starter,
Auburn's pitching was nearly flawless, whereas LSU's starter, Ty Floyd, struggled.
Thompson called Peirce's 2-2 count single through the right side to send Irish to third a turning point for Auburn's offense.
"A remarkable competitive spirit," remarked Butch Thompson following the game. "I believed we were extremely competitive."
