8 year NFL defensive end Chris Smith died aged 31.
In a post that shattered the NFL, an eight-year defensive end died at 31.
West Rowan High School in North Carolina reported the death of defensive end Chris Smith, who played eight NFL seasons.
R.I.P. West Rowan legend! West Rowan football tweeted Monday. Chris was more person than player! His influence will last forever!"
Between 2014 and 2021, Smith played for the Jaguars, Bengals, Browns, Raiders, and Texans.
The Jaguars drafted him in the fifth round from Arkansas, where he earned 2013 Second-Team All-SEC.
Browns tight end David Njoku wrote: “Rest in paradise Chris Smith. Local hero and brother to all. Kind soul. It's tragic.”
"Chris Smith had a smile that could light up any room," noted Charlotte Observer Carolina Panthers reporter Mike Kaye. So sad. Considering his children.”
He had five tackles in four XFL games with the Seattle Sea Dragons earlier this year.
Smith's girlfriend and mother of one of his three children, Petara Cordero, was killed by a motorist after exiting his vehicle in 2019.
